Boatlift: Little known heroes of 9/11
There were so many different kinds of heroes on 9/11. This inspiring story full of hope, is one that I hadn’t heard before now. It details the Manhattan evacuation where boatmen of all kinds, after seeing that the people on Manhattan were trapped and needed a way off the island, came to the rescue. They are unsung heroes that few people know about.
You may have heard of Dunkirk- the largest sea evacuation in the history of the world. In nine days, volunteer boaters transported and saved over 350,000 British soldiers from the German army in WWII. But that record is now eclipsed by the Manhattan evacuation where over half a million people were transported- in less than nine hours.
This story is phenomenal, and clearly shows that all people have a hero inside them- it is just waiting for the right time to come out. It’s just a little over 10 minutes long, is narrated by Tom Hanks, and is well worth sharing with your family.
