I talk a lot about real life heroes- but do you ha I talk a lot about real life heroes- but do you have a fictional hero?
.
I do! I’ve been reading the unabridged version of Les Miserables, and the Bishop is AMAZING. He inspires me so much and his compassion and sacrifice have caused me to do quite a bit of soul searching. Jane Eyre is another favorite. Her self discipline is remarkable. There are so many amazing people that authors or script writers have given us.
.
So...who is YOUR fictional hero? #heroes #mediathatmatters #whosyourhero #fictionalcharacters
Do you have a movie that is central to your family Do you have a movie that is central to your family culture?
.
We love lots of movies, but Lord of the Rings has a special place in our hearts. We all can quote it like crazy. We all agree that Sam is the real hero. We discuss the themes of heroism, sacrifice, doing hard things and so many others, every time we watch it. I still cringe at the orcs every time. When we can’t agree on what to watch, this is the default. (But The Princess Bride is a close second!)
.
So what about your family? What movie is part of your family culture? #familymovienight
As we finish up Black History Month, I wanted to s As we finish up Black History Month, I wanted to share some of my favorite movies about real heroes from the Black community. I’ve been reading and watching a lot this month, and these are some of the best! Link to the full list is in bio link under “Latest Post”.
.
Which movies would you add to the list? I can already tell that there needs to be a follow up post! #blackhistorymonth #mediathatmatters #realheroes
Have you been thinking more about justice lately? Have you been thinking more about justice lately? 🙋‍♀️ This book is fascinating to me. It is written by Thomas Sowell, a conservative black man, and it has made me think SO MUCH.
.
I agree with some things he says, disagree with others, but I love how it makes me really dig deep and figure out what I think. He goes over what the various definitions of justice mean, and looks at the philosophy, economic and legal consequences various definitions bring. I talk more about it in my stories today. He has a very different perspective than many, and I think it is a really worthwhile addition to our course of study as we consider what justice looks like and how to best implement it- just because it makes me look at things from so many different angles. Some people love him, some people hate him, but Thomas Sowell will always make you think. What other books about justice have you read and recommend? #bookstagram #justice #socialjustice #booksthatmakeyouthink

Coming of Age Celebrations are special events wher Coming of Age Celebrations are special events where loving mentors gather together for your child, have an activity together, and then mentors share their best advice and love for your child. It is such a bonding and connecting time. The last piece is to gather letters from mentors (because memories can’t capture everything!) and save them in a special binder, so your child can refer back and read them whenever they want to. I also add family stories from ancestors, stories about real people who lived high ideals, and inspirational and fun quotes. This binder is a keepsake that will inspire and make your child feel loved for their entire life! Learn how to do these special celebrations for yourself with my Coming of Age Celebration e-book. I’m always going to be sad about this: When we h I’m always going to be sad about this: When we held a Coming of Age Celebration for this awesome kid, the phone with all the pictures died and they are unrecoverable! 😱😡 But even without the pictures, he will always remember that special day. This tradition gathers your child’s mentors together for a celebration of what your child has achieved so far, and excitement for what is ahead of them. Everyone offers their best, personalized advice to your child, and it becomes a sacred part of growing up. I’ll be sharing more about this deliberate, meaningful tradition and how it has been a treasured part of our family culture. Did your family do anything to commemorate certain ages or stages? #comingofage #tradition #parentofteens #meaningful
My brother and his cute family are in Waco. They’ve been home bound for several days, and now without power for 24 hours, with no relief in sight. How are the rest of y’all doing? I’m wishing I had a magic wand and could transport everyone out of there! Do you have any suggestions for how the rest of us can help? #texas #ice #cold
