My greatest hope for my kids (and I’ll bet it is yours, too), is to raise children who will be a powerful force for good in the world.
A favorite scripture of mine is from a prophet who prays that what he “writes in weakness will be made strong” (or powerful) so that his posterity will be persuaded “to do good”. I feel the same way about this website and the resources I share. My job at Raise The Good is to give you as many resources as possible to help you as you raise good kids in a crazy world. I do that in a few ways:
Media that teaches Character
Media is a part of our world. We can debate if that is a good thing or not, but I prefer to use it to my advantage. I love to share movies, tv-series, books and more that teach kids character–without you or I doing any of the preaching! I try to share resources that are clean and family-friendly with meaningful themes (think Meet the Robinsons, Forever Strong, Iron Will, etc.), but sometimes I will share resources that are a bit gritty because of their subject matter (think 42: The Jackie Robinson Story).
I have a free “Media That Matters” course that will give you a power boost over 5 days, with tons of media tools that teach compassion, teamwork and more. You can sign up here!
Education
It is extremely difficult to be happy, independent, or able to make your contribution to the world if you lack education. Schools can’t be all things to all people, and sometimes our kids need some extra help. I want my kids to be able to know how to learn (and love it!), to identify and avoid manipulation, and to think logically and clearly. As a former homeschooler, I have really wonderful recommendations for how you can supplement and teach at home- remember that you are your child’s first and most lasting teacher!
Hero Spotlights
I am inspired by real heroes, and I will be sharing them with you. They are incredible mentors as I look at their contribution to the world and the obstacles they overcame. Reading biographies is one of my favorite things to do, as I become “friends” with these amazing people. I also like to share current “every day heroes” that live around us and inspire us.
I believe that the best way to be happy and make the world a better place is to try to be like Jesus Christ. He is my ultimate hero, so I will also share some faith-based resources.
“Adulting” and Life Skills
As our kids grow older, we need to teach them how to be adults. I am in that stage of life right now, so I will be sharing with you how I am teaching my kids about money, scholarships, trade school, jobs, etc. I also have a really popular tradition of having Coming of Age Celebrations for my children that I think you’ll really like.
THANK YOU for joining me here. It is a privilege to be a tiny part of your life. PLEASE let me know how I can best help you and what resources I can find that might help your family. In addition, I’d really LOVE to receive recommendations from you that I can share with others.
God bless all of us, as we try to better ourselves and teach our children to love goodness.
Love,
Jen
